Choosing Shades or Window Blinds
Blinds use slats that tilt to adjust light and privacy; shades use fabric or woven material that raises and lowers, with light control varying by construction. Choose based on your room: slat adjustment, fabric appearance, darkness, texture and ease of operation matter more than a universal winner.

Wood and faux wood blinds let you change the angle of the slats while leaving the treatment lowered. This can be useful when you want to adjust daylight without fully uncovering the window. Wood brings a natural finish, while faux wood is worth discussing for rooms where humidity matters. Review product-specific care instructions before assuming the material is appropriate for every setting.
A raised blind has a stack at the top of the opening. Look at where that stack will sit and whether the window handles or trim affect the mounting choice. Closed slats can still let light through gaps and around edges, so a blind is not automatically the same as a blackout treatment. Compare the look and daily operation using samples rather than relying on the category name alone.
When fabric or woven shades are a good fit
Roller shades give the window a simple fabric surface. Cellular shades use a honeycomb structure, while pleated shades create crisp folds. Roman shades bring a softer folding appearance, and natural woven wood shades add visible texture. Solar, sheer and zebra/layered treatments address light in different ways, so selecting shades still requires a specific conversation about privacy and the room.
Blackout describes fabric that blocks light through the material, not a guarantee that the whole window opening will be dark. Mounting and edge coverage matter. Likewise, solar screens are not a substitute for nighttime privacy. If that is your priority, discuss another fabric or a layer that can close the view after dark. Lining may change the result for woven materials.
Compare daily use and upkeep
All shade types Chroma sells can be motorized. Available motors, power sources and controls depend on the selected product. A motor can help with reach or repeated operation, but it does not change the fabric properties. Do not assume that a blind shares the same operating choices as a shade; ask about the actual product and control system.
Care differs by material and supplier. Slats create individual surfaces to clean, while fabrics and woven materials require their own recommended care. Ask how to handle marks, dust and routine maintenance without damaging the treatment. If pets, children or daily cooking affect the room, explain that during the consultation so both product selection and operation can be discussed.

Bring your priorities for each room: view, daylight, privacy, sleep, glare and reach. There is no requirement to choose one category for every opening. A mix of wood or faux wood blinds and shades may be more practical than forcing the same solution throughout the home.
Typically 3–4 weeks from order to installation. Warranty coverage follows the terms provided by the product manufacturer or supplier. TODO: Owner-approved installed prices are still needed for a numeric cost comparison. For now, compare the product, mounting, operation and included installation scope in the quote rather than assuming one category is always cheaper.
